Last winter we migrated through the southern deserts in California between mtb ride zones. We opted for a shortcut between Beatty NV and Death Valley NP called Titus Canyon and we’re glad we did. Its a great desert drive that finishes with a bit of “vanyoneering”.
The stock Ford 4 ton bottle jack that came with our van struggled a bit to lift our fully built out and loaded van but was “adequate” for changing a tire. But, with a lift kit and larger tires, we found that we needed to make a raised block (stacked leveling ramps) to get enough lift to remove and install tires.
Not a glamorous subject, but the stock jack may not cut it when you need it. Read on to see what your options are.
